September school mornings were always sunny in 1956 when I was in first grade, the sky hard and brilliant as a turquoise. I’d tie on my saddle shoes (the brown and tan kind I’d polished the night before) and try not to scuff them walking the half mile dirt road beyond the ranch gate. I calculated my route through the Goldsmith’s barnyard to avoid the most hostile and sharp-horned cows, and hurried softly past if the snorting bull was out. I held my skirt against my knees to step over the gaps and keep my balance on the homemade cattle guard. From there it was easy. A sturdy bridge crossed the creek, and if I was quick, I had just enough time to taste the Concord grapes from Mrs. Carson’s arbor near our mailboxes before the yellow bus came.
I’d barely begun my day, and already it had been full and rich with beauty, challenge, action, and reward. I still expect those qualities in my days and wish the same for you. Here are some opportunities available right now:
Go deeper in understanding those bewildering creatures, yourself and others, by studying the Enneagram with Kathleen Paterno (EnneagramDiscovery.com) in afternoon discussion groups at Dudley’s in Bend starting September 16th.
Fall in love with Argentine Social Tango taught by Alicia (BendTango.com) who brings her special knowledge of and passion for the dance from the Southern Hemisphere to Bend. Her classes start in September, too.
Challenge yourself to develop a daily moving meditation practice by learning about Qigong (“Chee-kung”). Call me at 541.390.9652 or email [email protected] to schedule an Intro to Qigong session.
Discover and nurture your creative dreams through painting workshops with me, too, customized for you.
More adventure lies ahead.
